Successful Motorized Paper Plane

I found this beautiful module that converts any paper plane into motorized smartphone controlled plane.

I thought that I can make a simple replication of it.

Here is was I came up with.

Check out the PowerUp 3.0 Smartphone Controlled Paper Plane

Get the template from Powerup website and print it on A4 paper.

Follow folding instructions to get the final paper plane airframe.

Grill Stick

Amazon US , Amazon CA , Amazon UK , Amazon DE , Amazon FR , Amazon ES , Amazon IT , Banggood

7mm Coreless DC Motor with propeller

3.7 Volt Li-Po (Lithium Polymer) Battery

Some wires

Cut the wooden grill stick to be the same length as the paper plane.

Use the other piece as the airframe stabilizer and tape it to the paper plane.

Use tape to fix the motor on the wooden grill stick.

Insert the stick inside the paper plane between the two wings and get the motor wires outside the wings.

Use tape to fix the battery on the paper plane near the middle of the airframe to adjust the center of gravity.

Connect the motor terminals to the battery terminals so that its rotation gives outward thrust (pushes the air) but leave one terminal unconnected (so that the motor doesn’t rotate immediately)

As I made the previous set up and tested the paper plane, I found that it could not fly. It falls just after I give it a push.

Although the paper plane can slightly glide with the motor and battery onboard but not working. But for some reason, when I connect the motor to the battery, the motor thrust causes the paper plane unbalanced and tend to make a sudden Nose Up then stalls and falls.
I’ve tried to adjust the elevator on the paper plane as advised on the website.

I’ve tried adjusting the elevator to make the paper plane balanced in both ways (Nose Up and Nose Down) but didn’t help.

I was sure that the motor can lift itself and the battery. And I’ve made a quick check for this setup.

I connected the battery right to the grill stick using tape and connected the motor to the battery terminals to check how the motor thrust was doing.

My hypothesis was correct and the motor thrust has been able to left itself and the battery up.
But with no airframe or any means of control for the thrust and its direction or for stabilization, the motor tends to rotate carrying the stick and the battery.

But this is enough for me.

So I’ve decided to install the motor on the tip of the paper plane.

The original design used on makes the motor gives pushing thrust on the rear airframe.

What I made was installing the motor on the front of the paper plane and making it drag the airframe.

Of course I inverted the motor direction to make the direction of the thrust into pulling the paper plane.

Finally, it flies.

With elevator adjustment, the paper plane still could fly by its own.

The only drawback for this setup is I have no control over thrust nor direction.

But given that it's a super simple paper plane, I'm so happy with it.

I will post a video soon.

Check it out on instructables

Thank you for reading my post.

Emerates testing Unmanned Flying Taxi

Dubai has previously announced the intention to be the first to operate the unmanned flying taxi.

Back in February 2017, it has been announced that this year will witness the take off of the first unmanned flying taxi service in the world.

Flight tests of the flying taxi operated by the EHang 184 human sized drone has already took place back then as a proof of concept experiments.

Actually, the promo video of the passenger sized drone EHang 184 has been shot in Dubai.

The head of Dubai's transportation agency said that self-flying taxis would start taking people across the city starting from July.

The EHang 184 is a drone that can fly without human direction and carry a single passenger and their bag. It can take one person on a journey up to 23 minutes long.

It is electric-powered and can travel for about 31 miles with a person and bag that weigh up to 100kg. It can go at speeds of up to 63 miles an hour and takes two hours to charge fully.

The EHang 184 is embedded with Ehang fail safe system. If any components malfunction or disconnect, the aircraft will immediately land in the nearest possible area to ensure safety.

The communication is encrypted and each drone has its independent key.

On September 2017 another proof of concept experiment has took place.

The two-seater, capable of transporting people without human intervention or a pilot, has been supplied by Volocopter, a Germany-based specialist manufacturer.

The test flight was held at a location near the Jumeirah Beach Park.

So, from EHang 184 to Volocopter , the unmanned flying taxi still doesn't have exact date to start operation. But what we are sure of is that the unmanned flying vehicles has become a fact not just a futuristic dream.

How can you be more productive by using The Pomodoro Technique

How can you be more focused, purpose driven and success oriented ?

I'm still on my course MindShift and guess what?

I've read about the pomodoro technique. It was invented by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s.

The technique uses a timer to break down work into intervals, traditionally 25 minutes in length, separated by short breaks. These intervals are named pomodoros, the plural in English of the Italian word pomodoro (tomato), after the tomato-shaped kitchen timer that Cirillo used as a university student.

Moonwalking with Einstein Book Review

I've just finished reading this wonderful book.

Moonwalking with Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything

Writer : Joshua Foer

You can get it from

Amazon UK

Amazon DE

Amazon FR

The book is written by a journalist who has been specialized in science news.

He has been writing about the US Memory Championship and the World Memory Championship.

He has been amazed by the contestants abilities that seed super human to him as he first saw them in from of his eyes.

Those contestants who could memorize hundred of playing cards in a matter of half an hour.

Long raws of digital binary number could be memorized in less than an hour.

And many other examples that seemed to be freaking talents that those humans has been born possessing them in their minds.

After asking those contestants how they could do their magic their answer was astonishing for him.

Their answer was simply that they has been for long time as normal as all the other people on the planet and that they used to forget where the had put their key chain - just as the writer did - but they only have been acquiring those skills during hard and long training periods of time.

The writer has asked them to tell him how he could train his brain to have the same memorizing abilities as they are.

They have felt that he was excited and so serious about it and they told him all of their secret recipes.

The writer has been training for a whole year and has ended up participating in The US Memory Championship.

For his surprise, he has won the championship. He has proven by an indefinite evident that with committed training of mind you can remember anything you want.

Skills And Memory Facts

The writer had mentioned Tony Buzan and his contributions to the Memory Championship. Tony has been writing books and giving courses and lectures about memorization techniques. He has been always saying that the brain is just like a muscle that you need to continuously keep training so you can keep it in shape.

You must use your own natural memory to keep it from the feeling of forgetfulness.

The writer has been comprehensively explaining the art of memorizing and the ancient techniques of memory enhancement.

The Memory Palace

The major memory technique is The Memory Palace which states that for remembering anything you need to associate this thing to a visual picture of a certain place you know.

He gave some examples from his life like a To-Do or shopping list.

You can remember all their items by associating these items with places of your home.

The Memory Palace technique is an ancient memorization technique that The Romans has mastered to remember their books and their creations before the written language has been widely used.

Actually this technique may look simple or familiar to many of us but it is the key to all other techniques.

At the end, you can be 100% sure that if you regularly spend enough time to train your brain to memorize stuff, your memory can be enhanced to a level that you have never thought possible.

Though some of the memorization applications in The Memory Championship may not be useful in daily life - something like remembering 300 playing cards or 3000 binary digits - but you can get the useful concept of the book as I did by starting to use your memory as a training technique. This training will change the way you remember things. This is also mentioned in the book from the point of view of Neuroplasticity.

A branch of the Neuroscience that studies how our brains change at different stages of our lives.

This is a good book to read indeed.

Mind Shift

Mind Shift

5 Minutes Solar Mobile Phone Charger

Finally I made it. I've always wanted to make a solar powered phone charger. I'm really obsessed with renewable energy and feel that they are the real future of energy for the humanity.
So I wanted to try to make this solar powered phone charger with the minimalist components and steps.
It's not rocket science. I actually had the idea when I saw it on instructables.
The idea is very simple. You need a solar panel that converts Sunlight intoElectricity. And you also need a constant Voltage source for charging your phone. This constant Voltage source is the car charger.
The charger here does some functions:
  • Regulating charging voltage and current
  • Voltage step up or Voltage step down. ( here I used a 6 Volt Solar panel - so I used the charger as a voltage step down circuit )
Wish you the best. And have fun ,Live free And Read Books on Amazon

Step 1: Components and Tools

Components and Tools
Here are the components and tools you are going to need:
Solar Panel ( I had a 1.5 watt solar panel win 6 volt output ) ---- > Amazon or eBayAliexpress
Phone Charger for car ( I actually found this one but you can buy it ) ---- >Amazon US or eBayAlixpress , Banggood , Amazon UK , Amazon DE , Amazon FR , Amazon CA , Amazon ES , Amazon IT
Some wires

Solder iron - to solder the wires into the solar panel ---- > Amazon or eBay ,Aliexpress
Solder Wire - to connect the wire into the solar panel ---- > Amazon or eBay ,Aliexpress
Screw Driver - I used it as a tool for opening the charger ---- > Amazon or eBay ,Aliexpress
Voltmeter - I used it to test the solar panel ----- > Amazon or eBay , Aliexpress
Crocodile Clips - They are the handy connectors that you can rely on for connecting stuff -- Amazon or eBay , Aliexpress

Step 2: Solder Wires Into Solar Panel and Open the Charger

Solder Wires Into Solar Panel and Open the Charger
I had a Solar Panel with no wires connected to it. So I had to solder the wires into the back of it with solder iron and solder wire.
I used the Voltmeter to test the Solar Panel. The output Voltage is 6 Volt. with no load.
Then I used the Screw Driver to open the car charger to get its circuit out.
The car charger normally gets its input power from the 12 Volt lighter outlet in the car dashboard to output 5 Volts used for phone charging.
The connector on both sides of the circuit have the negative terminal while the single terminal at the end is the positive one.

Step 3: Connect and Test It in the Sun

Connect and Test It in the Sun
Connect the phone charger into the Solar Panel using the Crocodile Clips as the following :
  • Positive terminal of the Solar Panel to the backward of the charger circuit.
  • Negative terminal of the Solar Panel to one of the side connectors on the charger circuit.
Put it in the Sun and test it using the your phone and USB cable.
Note that this type of phone charging with direct sunlight and without any battery takes long time to charge your phone due to relatively small charging current.
But finally, it works. If you find yourself in a place where you don't have any Electricity with plenty of Sunshine, give this one a try.
Thank you for reading my instructable.
