Emerates testing Unmanned Flying Taxi

Dubai has previously announced the intention to be the first to operate the unmanned flying taxi.

Back in February 2017, it has been announced that this year will witness the take off of the first unmanned flying taxi service in the world.

Flight tests of the flying taxi operated by the EHang 184 human sized drone has already took place back then as a proof of concept experiments.

Actually, the promo video of the passenger sized drone EHang 184 has been shot in Dubai.

The head of Dubai's transportation agency said that self-flying taxis would start taking people across the city starting from July.

The EHang 184 is a drone that can fly without human direction and carry a single passenger and their bag. It can take one person on a journey up to 23 minutes long.

It is electric-powered and can travel for about 31 miles with a person and bag that weigh up to 100kg. It can go at speeds of up to 63 miles an hour and takes two hours to charge fully.

The EHang 184 is embedded with Ehang fail safe system. If any components malfunction or disconnect, the aircraft will immediately land in the nearest possible area to ensure safety.

The communication is encrypted and each drone has its independent key.

On September 2017 another proof of concept experiment has took place.

The two-seater, capable of transporting people without human intervention or a pilot, has been supplied by Volocopter, a Germany-based specialist manufacturer.

The test flight was held at a location near the Jumeirah Beach Park.

So, from EHang 184 to Volocopter , the unmanned flying taxi still doesn't have exact date to start operation. But what we are sure of is that the unmanned flying vehicles has become a fact not just a futuristic dream.
